The Darrowby Suite at Skeldale House

Lovely building in perfect village location . Positive: Perfect location, large room which was very clean . Negative: Two sides to my review, the property is marketed as luxury , which it currently isn’t as in need of some TLC, in terms of shabby paintwork and minor fixes, the entrance hallway is very uninviting and the first impression of the property. Also marks on All creatures great and small which there is little evidence of which is a shame . Part way through our stay we met the new owner of four weeks, who is very aware of all of the above and is already working to resolve the issues and it was obvious is determined to restore the property to its former glory and re introduce the sitting room and All creatures great and small feel . You could see in a few days the changes she was already making. I mentioned the lack of information re WiFi code as literally no phone signal in Askrigg and within hours there was a sign up . I wish her good look and will return in the future to see the upgrade .

A little bit of luxury in a beautiful location Positive: Beautifully luxurious Negative: Absolutely nothing

Could be excellent in the future with a few small changes Positive: The location is great, the rooms are large and well equipped with a huge tv and everything you could need in a kitchen. Communications with the staff are easy and they respond quickly. Negative: The Barrowby suite has no curtains on the main window only shutters. The bed is right by the ceiling to floor window. So your option is shut the shutters and live in darkness or be fully exposed to the street below. The same applies on a warm night either wake up to bright sunlight at 5am or shut the shutters and boil. Not practical at all and the only time I have ever seen this set up in a hotel in my life. Also the high ceilings are unclean and were covered in tiny midgies and 1000s of new born spiders directly above the bed. Not much the staff can do about this but I spent about 3 hours trying to get rid of them all to no avail. It made for an uncomfortable night. The shower leaks under the screen and soaks the bathroom floor as stated in other reviews.

Positive: Lovely studio apartment, central location very comfortable Negative: The shower water leeked onto bathroom floor as shover screen did not sit flush on bath. The sink tap was also a bit powerful for the size of sink and again flooded the floor if you were not careful.

Enjoyed with minor issues Positive: Location, clean Negative: Teabags were horrible. Bath base too thin for shower.
